Keonjhar: In a brazen daylight heist, armed robbers allegedly decamped with gold ornaments worth over Rs 5 crore along with Rs 5 lakh in cash from Bank of Maharashtra branch at mining town of Barbil in Odisha’s Keonjhar district on Monday.
According to sources, six armed miscreants arrived at the bank on five motorcycles and entered the premises posing as regular customers. Once inside, they suddenly pulled out firearms, threatened bank employees at gunpoint, and looted gold jewellery kept in the branch as well as the available cash. They fled the scene on their motorcycles within minutes, triggering panic among locals and bringing normal banking operations to an immediate standstill.
On being informed, Barbil police arrived at the scene and launched an investigation. While security measures in and around the locality have been tightened, CCTV footage are being examined to identify and track down the suspects
