Jharsuguda: In a brazen armed robbery in Odisha’s Jharsuguda district, a masked gang broke into a house at Talmunda village under Laikera police station limits late Monday night and decamped with gold jewellery and cash.
The victims have been identified as Prakash Nayak and Jhili Nayak.
According to sources, five miscreants, carrying swords and pistols, forced their way into the couple’s home around 1 am while they were asleep. They allegedly tied their hands and legs and assaulted them, before fleeing with the 15 tolas of gold jewellery along with Rs 7 lakh in cash. The entire loot was executed within 20 minutes.
Prakash also sustained injuries on his shoulders in the sword attack. “We woke up to the noise of the door being forced open. They attacked us with swords and terrified, we gave them the keys to the almirah and lockers,” he told the media, adding that the assailants spoke in Odia and Sambalpuri dialects.
His wife added that they also damaged their mobile phones.
Police have launched an investigation into the incident. A forensic team also visited the spot to examine the crime scene for fingerprints, footprints, or other evidence. Jharsuguda SP is supervising the probe to track down the miscreants and recover the stolen items, the sources added.
