Bhubaneswar: An Indian Army jawan from Odisha died while loading ammunition in a tank during a training exercise in Rajasthan.
The jawan, identified as Ishwar Talia of Badaguda village under Baipariguda police station in Koraput district, was loading the ammunition in the tank along with two others at Mahajan field firing range in Bikaner of Rajasthan on Wednesday when the explosion took place.
While two others, Ashutosh Mishra, a tank commander and Jitendra, a gunner, died on the spot due to the explosion, jawan Talia was seriously injured.
Talia, who was working as a tank driver, was rushed to a hospital in Chandigarh in a helicopter. He succumbed to injuries in the hospital on Thursday morning.
“Three soldiers were practising with the tank. Ashutosh Mishra and Jitendra died in the explosion. The injured soldier has been taken to Chandigarh in a helicopter,” NDTV quoted Circle Officer Lunkaransar (Bikaner) Narendra Kumar Poonia as saying.
Talia, who had joined the Indian Army in 2011, was serving as LD in 46 Army Armoured Regiment of the Indian Army in Jammu. He is survived by his wife and two children.
