Article 370 Scrapped: Army, IAF On High Alert, Additional Troops Rushed To J&K

New Delhi: Indian Army and the Indian Air Force have been put on high alert, following the revocation of Article 370 and other decisions announced by Centre in Parliament on Monday.

Close to 8,000 paramilitary troops have been airlifted and moved in from Uttar Pradesh, Odisha, Assam and other parts of the country to the Kashmir valley. The induction is still going on, reported Mumbai Mirror.

The security forces, mostly CRPF personnel, are being deployed in vulnerable spots in the valley.

Rashtriya Rifles and other regular units deployed on the LoC have been asked to stay on high alert. Indian Air Force fighter aircraft are also patrolling over Jammu and Kashmir.

Central Reserve Police Force Director General Rajiv Bhatnagar has also been sent to Jammu and Kashmir to review the law and order situation in the wake of the fresh development, the Zee News said in an article.

Indian Army chief General Bipin Rawat has cancelled his visit to Jaisalmer for the fifth edition of Army Scout Masters Competition and will remain in the national capital for now, it added.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah in Rajya Sabha proposed abrogation of Article 370, which provides special status to Jammu and Kashmir, amid uproar by opposition parties. Senior Congress leader and former J&K chief minister Ghulam Nabi Azad alleged that the BJP had “murdered the Constitution”.

Former chief minister and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) supremo Mehbooba Mufti warned of “catastrophic consequences” for the Indian sub-continent.
