Arvind Kejriwal To Hold ‘Janta Ki Adalat’ At Delhi’s Jantar Mantar On Sunday

New Delhi: A day before senior party leader and minister Atishi’s taking oath as Delhi’s chief minister, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Friday announced that former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal will address the corruption charges levelled against him at a ‘Janta ki Adalat (People’s Court)’ to be held at Jantar Mantar on Sunday at 11 am.  Kejriwal resigned from the chief minister’s post following his release from jail on bail in the now-scrapped Delhi excise policy case.

The ‘Janta ki Adalat’ event is scheduled to take place at the very location where Anna Hazare’s anti-corruption movement had taken shape in 2011, which had brought Kejriwal into the national spotlight. Kejriwal has now chosen to address these allegations directly by returning to the same venue where his political journey began – Jantar Mantar, The Indian Express reported.

In 2011 Kejriwal, then an RTI activist, alongside veteran social reformer Anna Hazare, launched a nationwide anti-corruption movement demanding the creation of a Jan Lokpal to curb corruption. The agitation had received massive public support from across the country and had played a significant role in laying the foundation for the AAP’s emergence.

Kejriwal had earlier expressed his intention to seek a public mandate on the Delhi excise policy case. “In two days, I will resign as chief minister. I will not sit on that [CM’s] chair till the people announce their verdict.

Elections in Delhi are months away. I got justice from the legal court, now I will get justice from the people’s court. I will sit on the chief minister’s chair only after the order of the people…” he had declared.
