Imphal: As violence escalated in Manipur, the state administration on Sunday ordered all government, private and central schools to remain shut on September 9 and 10.
Last week’s drone attacks and Friday’s missile strike, which resulted in the death of a man, had prompted authorities to order closing of schools on September 7. That directive has now been extended keeping in mind students’ safety and security.
“In continuation of this office order of even number dated the 6th September 2024, all schools of the state, Government, Government Aided, Private and Central Schools, will stay closed on the 9th of September and 10th of September, 2024. All Zonal Education Officers under the Department of Education-Schools, Manipur are hereby directed to inform all concerned under your jurisdiction and take up necessary actions accordingly. This is issued with the approval of the Government,” stated the order issued by Directorate of Education.
Recent drone and gun attacks have claimed civilian lives and left many others injured. In one of the most shocking incidents in recent days, unknown armed groups killed one person and left three others injured at the residence of late former Chief Minister M Koireng in Moirang on Friday.
