Kendrapada: With the second wave of COVID-19 claiming more lives compared to the first wave in Odisha, an ASHA worker succumbed to the disease in the district.
The ASHA worker of the Derabish community health centre, Saraswati Mallick, was engaged in the duty of door-to-door survey for COVID contamination, official sources said.
Saraswati had taken two doses of COVID vaccines but tested positive for the disease last week. She was admitted to a Covid hospital in Chhata. On Friday night, she was put on ventilator support as her oxygen level dropped but she died, sources in the district headquarters hospital said.
Earlier, the state had announced ex gratia of Rs 50 lakh for families of Covid warriors, including ASHA and Anganwadi workers who would die of the disease.
Meanwhile, COVID-19 claimed another 45 lives in the last 24 hours in the state on Friday, taking the toll to 4,154.
