Nagoya: More than halfway through the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games 2026, it seemed Team India will massively underperform and fall well short of their tally in the previous edition at Hangzhou (China).
Then came two magical days – six gold medals on Friday and five on Saturday – to salvage India’s campaign.
India’s golden moments on Day 15 came through – teenaged archer Kumkum Mohod in Women’s Individual Recurve, Pranavi Urs in Women’s Individual Golf, Aman Sehrawat In Men’s 57 kg Wrestling, Men’s Cricket and Men’s Hockey.
There were a couple of silver and bronze medals, too, as India finished with a total of 85 medals. That included 21 gold, 27 silver and 37 silver.
Those numbers are inferior to India’s medal collection at the Hangzhou Asian Games, where they bagged a record 107 medals, comprising 28 gold, 38 silver and 41 bronze.
Despite lesser number of medals, India managed to retain fourth place in the medal standings.
Like India, Uzbekistan also bagged 21 gold medals, but were nudged to fifth position because of lesser number of silver (25 to India’s 27).
