Aichi: Breaking India’s 28-year medal wait in weightlifting at the Asian Games, Mirabai Chanu won a silver—her maiden medal in the championship—on Wednesday in the women’s 49kg weightlifting event with a total lift of 198kg (87kg snatch+111kg clean and jerk) at the Nagoya City Trade and Industry Center in Aichi and Nagoya, Japan.
The silver completes Mirabai Chanu’s medal collection across the Olympics, Asian Games and Commonwealth Games. Two-time Asian Games and world champion Ri Song-gum of North Korea won gold with 215kg. Indonesia’s Luluk Diana Tri Wijayana bagged the bronze with 191kg.

In Badminton, India got a setback as Lakshya Sen lost against former world champion from China, Shi Yuqi in the opening match of the men’s team semi-final.
Olympian Lakshya Sen lost 21-16, 21-18 Yuqi, leaving India 1-0 down.
Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty will face Olympic silver medallists Liang Weikeng and Wang Chang next.
Rowing: India qualifies for men’s quadruple sculls Final A
In rowing, India’s Arvind Singh, Kulwinder Singh, Navdeep Singh and Jakar Khan finished third in their men’s quadruple sculls heat, clocking 6:18.62s, which is the fourth-fastest time overall.
The final will be held on Thursday at the Nagaragawa International Regatta Course.
Meanwhile, India’s Rohit and Ujjwal Kumar Singh qualified for the lightweight men’s double sculls final. They clocked 6:51.30s in the heats.
Squash: Rounfd of 16 entry for Tanvi Khanna & Abhay Singh
India’s Tanvi Khanna won by 3-0 (11-5, 11-7, 11-5) against the Republic of Korea’s Kim Dami.
She will next take on Singapore’s Wai Yhann Au Yeong in the Round of 16 on Thursday.
Asian Games medallist Abhay Singh entered the men’s singles Round of 16 after beating Thailand’s Arkaradet Arkarahirunya 3-0.
Shooting: Raiza Dhillon finishes fourth in women’s skeet final
Olympian Raiza Dhillon finished fourth in the women’s skeet individual final. Parinaaz Dhaliwal finished eighth. Previously, India had bagged bronze in the event with both Dhillon and Parinaaz part of the medal winning trio.
Kabaddi: India’s men’s team beat Bangladesh for third straight win
India’s men’s team gained victory even in the group stage with a dominant 48-25 win over Bangladesh. The defending champions inflicted three all-outs over the course of the contest. India will face Chinese Taipei in their next match on Thursday.
