Bhubaneswar: The six transgenders, who were arrested by the Commissionerate Police on Friday night for allegedly beating up an on-duty havildar near Baramunda Bus Stand, here, were forwarded to the court on Saturday.
The arrested transgenders have been identified as Raju Behera alias Rini (19), Sagar Das alias Shalini (21), Papun Sethi alias Rupa (19) and Nanda Jena alias Suni of Kargil slum in Pokhariput area, Tofan Nayak alias Dipali (19) of Tarini slum and Sujit Mallick alias Rehana (19) of Kalinga Studio area in Ghatikia.
The incident took place on Friday night when the transgenders tried to loot a passenger near the bus stand. As havildar Dinesh Biswal, posted at the Baramunda police outpost, tried to restrain the accused, they attacked him and hit his head with an iron rod.
When the havildar cried for help, the locals caught hold of the transgenders and informed Bharatpur police who rushed to the spot and arrested them.
The havildar, who sustained serious injury on the head, was admitted to the Capital Hospital.
