Kolkata: All but one of the exit polls on Thursday predicted victory for the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) in a bitterly-fought West Bengal assembly elections with the BJP.
The eight-phase elections in West Bengal ended on Thursday evening, while polling in Assam, Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Puducherry were over by April 6. Counting of votes in all states will be taken up on May 2.
All eyes were on West Bengal this evening as the BJP left no stone unturned to dethrone the Mamata Banerjee-headed Trinamool Congress government.
ABP C-Voter gave TMC 152-164 seats out of 294, and BJP 109-121.
CNN News18’s poll showed TMC with 162 and BJP 115 seats, while P-MARQ projected TMC between 152-172 and BJP at 112-132.
According to ETG Research, TMC will be winning 164 to 176 seats, and BJP 105 to 115.
Only the Republic TV-CNX poll had BJP in front (138-148), albeit marginally than TMC (128-138), thus predicting a possible hung assembly.
The third force, comprising of Congress-Left Front alliance, was nowhere in the picture with all polls giving them between 10 and 20 seats.
BJP win in Assam, LDF in Kerala & DMK in Tamil Nadu:
As for the other states, BJP looks to be ahead in the race against Congress in the 126-member Assam assembly, and could retain power in the north-eastern state.
It’s advantage LDF in Kerala as per the exit polls. If the numbers are reflected in actual results on May 2, it will deal another big blow to the Congress.
In Tamil Nadu, the exit polls have put the DMK alliance well ahead of the AIADMK alliance.
