New Delhi: Results in all five states which went to polls in different phases in November were scheduled to be declared on December 3.
But the Election Commission of India (ECI) announced a change on Friday. Counting of votes in Mizoram will now take place on Monday, December 4.
ECI stated in a notification that several representations from various quarters had requested that the counting date in the north-eastern state be altered as December 3, being a Sunday, is of special significance for the people of Mizoram.
The exit polls predict a close contest between the ruling Mizo National Front and the new six-party alliance of Zoram People’s Movement.
The fate of the other four states – Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Telangana – will be sealed on Sunday, as scheduled.
