Assessment Of Assets Damaged In BSE Office Fire To Begin Today

Sambalpur/Cuttack: Two days after the arson at the branch office of the Board of Secondary Education (BSE) in Sambalpur, BSE president Dr Jahan Ara Begum said the assessment of the loss of the assets in the fire will begin from Thursday.

“As informed by the deputy secretary of the BSE branch office in Sambalpur, Suryamani Majhi, there is no damage to about 40,000 books kept at the office room which will be distributed among the students of Class IX and X. The fire did not spread to the room in which these books were kept. Apart from this, another room where the registers and certificates of the students are kept is safe. But the main hall of the office, which was set on fire, had several documents and most of which have been destroyed. We have told the staff and the deputy secretary to examine the documents that have been destroyed so that we will be able to take the necessary steps. Since the form fill-up for the HSC correspondence students was going on when the incident took place, we will have to find out how many forms have been destroyed so that we will send more forms from here for students,” she told mediapersons in Cuttack.

Meanwhile, acting on the complaint registered by the BSE deputy secretary at the Dhanupali police station on Thursday, police have begun an investigation into the incident.

Following the instruction of  Sambalpur SP Sanjeev Arora, a special team has been formed under  Sadar SDPO Bhabani Udgata to investigate into the case. The SP has directed the SDPO to closely examine the CCTV footage in the locality to identify the miscreants.

On the other hand, IIC of Dhanupali police station, Kamal Panda, who along with his team had gone to the BSE office on Thursday for an on-the-spot investigation,  informed the media that the police have videographed the entire incident.
