Bhubaneswar: Vigilance sleuths nabbed an assistant engineer while accepting a bribe of Rs 50,000 from a contractor in Aska of Ganjam district on Thursday.
Following a complaint filed by the contractor against Iswar Das, assistant engineer (Electrical), Lift Irrigation sub-division, Aska, the Vigilance set a trap. The contractor alleged that Iswar was demanding Rs 50,000 as illegal gratification to clear his bill for construction of a river lift irrigation project in Buguda block of the district.
As per the plan, the contractor went to give the bribe money to the assistant engineer and the Vigilance officials nabbed the latter while accepting it. The Vigilance has registered a case and launched simultaneous searches on properties of Iswar at 3 places in the district. Further investigation is on.
