Bilaspur: After a spate of road accidents over the last few weeks, India was jolted by a terrible rail mishap on Tuesday.
A passenger train collided with a goods train near Chhattisgarh’s Bilaspur, resulting in the death of at least 6 people with several others injured.
MEMU local train (No. 68733), travelling from Gevra Road to Bilaspur, collided with a freight train on the up line between Gatora and Bilaspur at around 4 pm, PTI reported.
The impact was so severe that the first coach of the passenger train mounted the goods train.

Train operations on the route was disrupted as multiple coaches got derailed, overhead wires and signalling system were severely damaged.
Several trains have been cancelled or diverted due to the disruption.
According to preliminary reports, the accident took place after the local train overshot a signal and rammed into the rear of a stationary goods train.
Railway rescue teams, RPF personnel and local police rushed to the spot to carry out relief and evacuation efforts. Emergency medical teams are also at the accident site, attending to the injured, while those seriously wounded were shifted to a hospital.
Senior railway officials are supervising operations at the accident spot.
