Nabarangpur: A few hours after miscreants looted an ATM of State Bank of India (SBI) in Odisha’s Nabarangpur district, the police apprehended five persons on Wednesday for their involvement in the robbery.
A group of miscreants had looted the ATM located near the Nabarangpur block office on National Highway No. 26 in Odisha late on Tuesday night.
Following the robbery, police swung into action and nabbed five persons for their alleged involvement in the crime. The arrested accused were nabbed from a forest in Dabugaon within hours of committing the crime.
While the exact amount of cash looted from the ATM is yet to be ascertained, police have recovered Rs 20 lakh from them. The miscreants were from Chhattisgarh and Haryana, sources said.
As per reports, the accused had used a gas cutter to cut open the ATM and steal cash. The machine had caught fire following which fire services rushed to the spot to douse the flame.
On getting information, a police team reached the spot and started investigation immediately following which all five of the accused were arrested.
According to police sources, some currency notes burnt in the fire were found scattered on the floor of the ATM kiosk. CCTV footage of different locations was checked and the scientific team collected samples.
Based on preliminary investigation, police had found that the miscreants reportedly came in a white car, broke the ATM lock, and opened the ATM.
