Bhubaneswar: Police on Thursday arrested the main accused, Rupesh Panda, and one of his aides, Sanjay Panda, in connection with the stabbing incident, involving a woman and her daughter at Sailshree Vihar in Odisha capital.
Rupesh was detained on Wednesday after he recovered from injuries sustained during a scuffle with the mother-daughter duo who had put up a good fight after being attacked by the former. He was undergoing treatment at Capital Hospital.
Addressing mediapersons, Bhubaneswar DCP Umashankar Das said loot was the motive behind the crime. Rupesh had a home loan and needed money to repay it. He then plotted to loot his neighbour along with Sanjay a month back. According to the plan, they had purchased a woman’s dress, knife and toy gun from Unit-1 market, the DCP said, adding that these items were used in the crime.
Notably, Rupesh had entered the house disguised as a woman and attacked them with a knife on November 1.
The DCP had earlier told that Rupesh’s statement was incoherent and he would be arrested only after there was some clarity on the reason behind the incident.
