Bhubaneswar: A rapper from Odisha, Abhinav Singh, allegedly died by suicide in Bengaluru on Wednesday, under circumstances that appear to be a grim reminder of Atul Subhash case.
Abhinav was a resident of Kaligali in Cuttack and an engineer by profession. He was working in Bengaluru and was known by his stage name ‘Juggernaut’. He allegedly died by consuming poison, sources said.
His family members claimed that he was being mentally tortured by his wife and was under intense stress. ” I call him everyday at around 8 am before he leaves for office. He had spoken to his father the previous night. Strangely, he asked me to wake him up around 9 am instead of 8 am since he had moved closer to his office. I started calling him from 8.15 am but it went unanswered, I thought he would get late for office and asked my husband to call his friend Tanmay who lives nearby. Tanmay along with another friend went over to his place and knocked on the door. On getting no response, Tanmay climbed his balcony and found that my son had consumed poison,” Abhinav’s mother told media.
Speaking about his rocky relationship with his wife, his mother said that they would often fight. “Abhinav had come home during the Puja break but every weekend he would disappear without informing us. I once heard him asking his wife to interact with us but she was reluctant to do. I kept quiet for almost nine months,” she stated.
She further said that Abhinav’s brother in-law had approached his wife’s family in 2023 for mutual separation without getting into legal hassles.
His family has lodged a written complaint with Lalbagh police, demanding a thorough probe into the incident.
Meanwhile, the local police in Bengaluru have handed over the body to Abhinav’s family.
