Bhubaneswar: The nation’s academic future is likely to undergo comprehensive scrutiny and fine-tuning when 200 vice-chancellors and directors of Higher Education Institutions (HEI), besides overseas delegates, will gather at the 93rd Annual General Meeting of the Association of Indian Universities (AIU) to be hosted by SOA Deemed to be University here from February 16 to 18.
Diplomats, heads of overseas academic organisations, World Bank nominees and other international academic beacons are expected to attend the conference.
AIU is the single umbrella organisation under which all types of universities of India are enrolled and registered. Its annual conference is the highest profile conclave of academic leaders of the country, who chalk out the blueprint of the future of the nation’s higher education. It includes central, state, private, technical and deemed to be universities.
The focal theme of the conference, to be held at the SOA Convention Centre, will be ‘Autonomy for Excellence’. A national seminar will be organised on the subject with several sub-themes to deliberate on their impact on higher education.
The sub-themes will include Promotion of Sports and Sports Culture and the Fourth Industrial Revolution, in keeping with the times.
The other sub-themes to be discussed will comprise Social Development and Sustainability, Ranking, Rating and Research, Internationalization as a strategy for Excellence and Faculty Selection and Development.
The resolutions adopted in the meet are expected to play a pivotal role in the nation’s future higher education policies.
