Bhubaneswar: Despite eczema nearly doubling — from 4% to 7.5% — across the world in last two decades, there are new medicines and new avenues of treatment available now, renowned dermatologist Dr Sandipan Dhar assured on Saturday.
“Eczema can be cured with new medicines and new methods but it takes time. There is need for spreading awareness about it,” Dr Dhar, president of the Society for Eczema Studies (SES), said while speaking at the inauguration of two-day ‘National Update 2023’ programme which began at the Institute of Medical Sciences and SUM Hospital here.
He added that it’s necessary to create awareness among dermatologists and general public about new research and latest treatments of eczema, which is a type of dermatitis, for which the National Update programme has been organised.
SES had been set up to properly train dermatologists about new treatment methods and emergence of new medicines in the world, Dr Dhar said.
Prof. (Dr) Prasenjeet Mohanty, Head of Department of Dermatology at SCB Medical College and Hospital, Cuttack, said the SES was spreading awareness about new diagnosis and treatment methods.
Additional Dean, IMS and SUM Hospital Prof. (Dr) Ajay Kumar Jena, Medical Superintendent of the hospital Prof. (Dr) Pusparaj Samantasinhar and Head of Department of Dermatology Prof. (Dr) Bikash Ranjan Kar, Dr Maitreyee Panda and department professors also spoke.
