New Delhi: Kanta Prasad (80), the owner of ‘Baba ka Dhaba’ that shot into limelight after a video of his humble eatery in Delhi went viral, has filed a police complaint against the Instagram-YouTube influencer accusing him of misappropriating money that was raised to help him and his wife.
In the complaint, Kanta Prasad mentioned that Gaurav Wasan used their videos to ask for donations from the social media community and misappropriated those funds.
He further alleged that Wasan had shared bank account details of only his family and friends without the knowledge of ‘Baba Ka Dhaba’ owners.
Kanta Prasad and his wife, Badami Devi, shot to fame after a video of him tearfully recounting the desperation of the months since the lockdown was shared widely across social media platforms. Even celebrities like Raveena Tandon and R Ashwin shared his stories on their social media profiles.
In an interview with The Indian Express, Prasad stated that he has only received a cheque of Rs 2 lakh from Wasan.
“I don’t get a lot of customers now; most people come here to take selfies. Earlier I was earning over Rs 10,000 a day, now it’s Rs 3,000-Rs 5,000,” he added.
The complaint was filed by Prasad, along with a group of men, at Malviya Nagar police station Saturday.
“We received the complaint yesterday and the matter is being probed. No FIR has been registered yet in the case,” Deputy Commissioner of Police (South) Atul Kumar Thakur said.
