The IPL title sponsorship is up for grabs after Chinese mobile phone company Vivo pulled out of the upcoming 13th edition. Names of several companies have been doing the rounds. One more was added to the list on Monday in the form of Baba Ramdev’s Patanjali Ayurved.
Confirming the development, company spokesperson S K Tijarawala said: “This is for Vocal For Local and making one Indian brand as global, this is the right platform. We are considering that perspective.”
The Haridwar-headquartered firm has, of late, been focusing on exports of its Ayurveda-based FMCG products.
Tijarawala added that the company is yet to take a final call on whether to bid for IPL sponsorship.
He said the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is coming out with the expression of interest and the proposal has to be submitted by August 14.
The BCCI and Vivo decided to suspend their partnership for the 2020 IPL – to be held in the UAE from September 19 — amid clamour to boycott Chinese products in the wake of border tensions and skirmishes.
Patanjali group, which was embroiled in a controversy after claiming it was ready to sell medicines which would cure COVID-19 in June, has a turnover of around Rs 10,500 crores.
