Bhubaneswar: Activists of Bajrang Dal and Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) on Thursday staged a demonstration in front of Utkal University here opposing the decision of Orissa High Court to demolish temples situated on the premises of the educational institution.
Expressing strong resentment over the order, an agitating student said, “Any attempt to remove the religious structures will hurt the sentiments of the students and the staff of the university. So, we want the court to reconsider the matter.”
Later, the protestors met the vice chancellor and held discussed with him regarding the issue.
The High Court order came after a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) was filed by general secretary of Free Thought Party of India B Rama Chandra (71) seeking direction for demolition of all “unauthorised” religious structures built on the university campus.
The PIL was filed along with photographs of eight temples that had come up on the varsity premises.
