Baltimore: A deadly shooting and crash Monday night near Mondawmin Mall in West Baltimore left one person dead and three others injured, police confirmed as quoted by CBS News.
According to Richard Worley, Commissioner, officers were dispatched around 9:30 PM to a crime scene centered on the 2400 block of Liberty Heights Avenue. The response shut down multiple streets as investigators worked across several locations
According to CBS News, police arrived to find two vehicles that had collided in the mall’s parking lot. Inside and around those vehicles were two victims suffering from gunshot wounds. Both were shifted for medical treatment and are expected to survive.
Police subsequently located a third victim with non-life-threatening gunshot injuries in the 3000 block of Tioga Parkway. Shortly afterward, a fourth individual was found dead from gunshot wounds in the 2500 block of Liberty Heights Avenue. Authorities believe the violence resulted from a shootout that spilled across the area before ending in the vehicle crash.
“As you can see, this is an extensive crime scene,” Worley said as quoted by CBS News. “It was a shootout. It looked like it occurred here in this parking lot where the two vehicles crashed together.”
Reports said investigators recovered four firearms in total – three handguns and one rifle – from the various scenes. The incident remains under active investigation as detectives work to determine what led to the exchange of gunfire and whether additional suspects may be involved.
