Kuala Lumpur: India went down to Bangladesh for the second time in a week, to end up as runners-up in the Women Asia Cup final in Kuala Lumpur. Bangladesh defeated six-time champions India by three wickets to win their maiden Asia Cup trophy.
Bangladesh won the toss and put India to bat first. After losing five wickets for just 62 runs, Harmanpreet’s innings did some damage control. She scored 56 off 42 balls to help India set a target of 113 runs.
India’s top order including Mithali Raj (11 off 18 balls), Smriti Mandhana (7 off 12) and Deepti Sharma (4 off 11 balls) did little to contribute in the batting line-up. India could only score 21 runs in the powerplay overs.
Chasing a modest total, Bangladesh’s Nigar Sultana (27 off 24 balls) and Rumana Ahmed (23 off 22 balls) put off a decent partnership to drive home their first win in the Asia Cup.
