New Delhi: Hours after the Bangladeshi mission in Agartala was breached by a group of protesters on Monday, the Indian government condemned the incident
“The incident earlier today of the breach of premises at the Bangladesh Assistant High Commission in Agartala is deeply regrettable. Diplomatic and consular properties should not be targeted under any circumstances,” the Ministry of External Affairs said in a statement.
A massive rally was taken out in the Agartala capital to protest against the arrest of Hindu monk Chinmoy Krishna Das Prabhu in Bangladesh and also the continued attacks on minority Hindus in the neighbouring country.
Over 50 protesters entered the premises of the Bangladeshi mission, PTI reported.
The MEA said the government is taking action to step up security arrangements for High Commission of Bangladesh in Delhi and other Deputy and Assistant High Commissions across the country.
India earlier slammed Bangladesh over targeted attacks on Hindus, on temples and other establishments, saying that the escalating incidents of violence against minorities cannot merely be dismissed as ‘media exaggerations’.
The Centre urged upon the Muhammad Yunus-led interim government to live up to its responsibility of protecting all minorities.
