Bangladeshi Hindus In Kendrapara Will Get Indian Citizenship: Union Minister
Kendrapara: Union Minister of State for Steel, Faggan Singh Kulaste on Sunday said that Bangladeshi Hindus, living in Kendrapara district and earlier served deportation notices, will be provided Indian citizenship under the Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA).
Altogether 1,551 people from Mahakalpada tehsil were served ‘Quit India’ notice in 2005. The deportation, however, was kept on hold following widespread opposition. Odisha is home to 3,987 Bangladeshis infiltrators, according to government records.
The Union Minister was at Ramchandi village in Mahakalpada tehsil to attend the launch of ‘Jana Sampark Yatra’ , where he explained the positive perspectives of CAA to the gathering.
He said that the violet protests being carried out by some people to fulfil their narrow political interests.
“The act pledges to confer citizenship not snatch and canards are being spread by vested interest,” Kulaste asserted.
He further said that the law has been duly passed in Parliament and no state government can stop its implementation.
