New Delhi: A student activist from Bangladesh, who boasted of killing a Hindu police officer in his country on August 5, 2024, was arrested at the Delhi airport on Wednesday night.
Ahmed Raza Hasan Mehdi, a resident of Habiganj, was later deported to Bangladesh after legal formalities. According to officials, Mehdi was attempting to flee to Finland when he was detained by immigration officials and then arrested.
A lunch mob had marched towards the Baniachang police station in Habiganj on August 5, 2024, when the student uprising was at its peak. The police opened fire at the mob and six persons were killed. The mob then set ablaze the police station.
Sub-Inspector Santosh Chowdhury’s body was later found hanging from a tree. A video also surfaced, showing Mehdi, sitting inside a police station, and claiming to have killed Chowdhury. He then went missing from Bangladesh and there were reports of his fleeing to India.
Chowdhury has married just a few months before he was murdered. Three months after the killing, his wife gave birth to a male child.
