Balasore: With the arrest of seven persons, police on Monday claimed to have foiled a bank robbery attempt in Odisha’s Balasore district.
Acting on a tip-off, a team from Jaleswar police station in coordination with West Midnapore police of Bengal conducted raids at Dashahara Padia in Gobarghata village in the wee hours and caught the seven miscreants.
The miscreants, armed with weapons, were planning to loot a nearby bank when the team nabbed them, Balasore Superintendent of Police Sagarika Nath said.
The arrested persons have been identified as Biswajit Mohanty of Balasore, Jagannath Raul of Balasore, Venkat Rao of Delhi, B. Hariprasad, Paschim Medinipur, Fakir Nayak, Mangal Bhuyan, Gouri Shankar Gochhayat of West Bengal, she said.
Police also seized two pistols, 15 live bullets, one country made gun, 3 magazines, a gas cutter with oxygen tank, gloves, 2 screwdrivers, monkey caps, 3 motorcycles, cash, 6 mobile phones, 1 car with multiple fake number plates from their possessions.
All the accused persons were forwarded to the court after their arrest, police said.
