Bargarh: Members of different civil society organisations, lawyers and local residents observed a six-hour bandh at Attabira in Bargarh district on Wednesday in support of Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (VIMSAR) director Aswini Kumar Pujahari. They demanded immediate arrest of PG students involved in the attack on Pujahari’s residence last Friday.
Owing to the strike, most of the educational institutions, shops and business establishments remained closed. However, vehicular movement and emergency services were exempted from the purview of the bandh.
“The state government should take immediate and appropriate measures to bring back normalcy at VIMSAR, which is the lifeline of healthcare system in western region of the state,” a local resident said.
In the wake of the ongoing cease-work agitation by the medicos demanding transfer of VIMSAR director, the government had ordered deployment of 116 doctors at the hospital on emergency basis.
