Mumbai: Celebrated musician AR Rahman’s grey divorce, after 29 years of marriage to Saira Banu, has created quite a flutter.
When bassist Mohini Dey of Rahman’s troupe also announced separation from her husband, hours after Rahman’s divorce announcement, rumours about their link-up started doing the rounds.
To set the record straight, Mohini took to her Instagram handle and wrote, “I’ve received a huge number of interview requests and know exactly why, but I must respectfully decline them all. I refuse to fuel ABSOLUTE BS. My energy is not worth wasting on RUMOURS. Please respect my privacy.”
The bassist called out gossipmongers for their ‘absolute BS’ and asked people to respect her privacy.
Saira Banu and Rahman’s lawyer Vandana Shah had earlier cleared the air about the rumoured Mohini-Rahman link-up.
The lawyer stated that there are various reasons why celebrity marriages don’t last. However, Mohini is not the reason behind Rahman’s divorce.
Rahman’s son AR Ameen also dismissed such rumours. “My father is a legend, not just for his incredible contributions, but for the values, respect, and love he has earned over the years. It’s disheartening to see false and baseless rumours being spread. Let us all remember the importance of truth and respect when speaking about someone’s life and legacy. Please refrain from engaging in or spreading such misinformation. Let’s honour and preserve his dignity and the incredible impact he has had on all of us.”
Mohini, who has performed with Rahman in over 40 shows across the world, and her husband Mark announced their separation through a joint statement.
