Mumbai: Artificial Intelligence (AI) platforms are increasingly showing their interest to be part of major sporting events like the Indian Premier League (IPL). Days after ChatGPT announced its partnership with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) for the ongoing Women’s Premier League (WPL), its rival in Google – Gemini – secured a lucrative Rs 270 crore sponsorship deal with the board for the IPL that is scheduled to start from March 26.
“The deal is for three years and reinforces IPL’s global appeal,” news agency PTI has quoted a BCCI official as saying.
The BCCI has not been short of support in recent times. In 2025, after it searched for a new jersey sponsor after the Indian government banned real money gaming platforms like Dream11, Apollo Tyres obliged by securing the rights for Rs 579 crore.
The Tata Group holds the title sponsorship rights for the IPL, the world’s biggest T20 league.
Gemini’s sponsorship indicates the growing interest of AI platforms in Indian cricket.
When ChatGPT’s association with WPL was announced in November 2025, BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia had spoken about the significance of the partnership.
“From global leaders in AI, manufacturing and beverages to trusted Indian consumer brands, this partnership mix will play a critical role in shaping the fan experience and supporting the growth of women’s cricket,” he had said.
