Bhubaneswar: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has decided to hold Ranji Trophy in two phases from February.
“In the first phase, we plan to complete all matches of the league stage while the knockouts will be held in June,” a national news agency quoted BCCI secretary Jay Shah as saying on Friday.
The domestic tournament, scheduled to start on January 13 this year, was postponed due to the third wave of COVID pandemic.
The decision to hold the tournament in two stages was taken after a meeting of the Board on Thursday. As the BCCI is planning to start the IPL from March 27, it will be impossible to hold the Ranji Trophy at a stretch, BCCI treasurer Arun Dhumal said.
As per the plan, the league phase will be held for a month from February to March and the knockout phase in June-July.
