A joint team of BDA and Commissionerate Police arrived at the place beside an ashram under Balipatna police station to start the demolition in the morning on the basis of an order issued by ODA court on Wednesday.
A group of local people including women staged opposition to the demolition initially. But BDA officials convinced produced the court order and convinced them not to oppose the work failing which the police would resort to action.
The BDA had the court order to demolish 22 illegal structures including a 3-storey building in the area under Balipatna police station.
Speaking to media, Ranjan Kumar Bhuyan, BDA official present at the spot said, “These buildings were constructed without approved plan from BDA. Th buildings have been constructed after the area under Balianta police station came under jurisdiction of BDA in 2011. We had issued notice to their owners in this regard, but there was no response from them. Then BDA approached the court and obtained the permission for demolition.”
He further said the court has issued demolition of 22 constructions. “Of those structures, 12 owners have filed appeals in higher court. We will not demolish those till we get order from the appellate court,” he added.
