Bhubaneswar: The BDA City Centre, popular as Nicco Park, is going to reopen in another two weeks. The only theme park in Odisha capital had been lying defunct after being devastated by cyclone Fani in May 2019.
The Bhubaneswar Development Authority (BDA) recently decided to restore it and reopen it for the public again.
BDA Vice Chairman Prem Chandra Choudhury said that an application has been sent to the state government to restore the park on PPP model (Public-Private Partnership). Plans are afoot to give the theme park a new look and bring it completely under BDA administration, he added.
According to sources, more than one crore money has already been spent to restore the park and nine rides have also been repaired. There are also plans to reduce the ticket price.
The amusement park was set up by BDA and Nicco Group along the city’s largest natural drain at Sachivalay Marg in December 1998. Spreading across 24 acres, it was a major crowd puller during its initial days. However, the park lost its sheen over a period of time due to lack of maintenance.
