BDO Manhandled For Stopping Youth From Playing Cricket In Odisha’s Ganjam District

Chhatrapur: A group of youngsters was playing cricket in the red zone in Ganjam district and when the Block Development Officer (BDO) intervened, they allegedly manhandled him.

The incident took place at Telugu Nuagaon under Chhatrapur Block amid the lockdown.

On receiving information, Ganjam Police reached the spot and escorted the BDO to his office. A case has been registered against the accused persons based on a written complaint filed by the BDO. He has, however, not made any statement over the matter.

Games and sports are not allowed as per lockdown guidelines. Earlier, two boys were found COVID-19 positive in Kalahandi and Bhadrak districts after they came in contact with infected persons while playing cricket.

It may be noted that Ganjam district is in the red zone following a steep hike in COVID-19 positive cases in a couple of few weeks. The number of cases in the district is 317 with 182 active cases.
