Berhampur: More prisoners in Odisha jails tested positive for coronavirus as COVID continued to breach records in the state with 12,390 cases in last 24 hours.
On Friday, 46 under-trial prisoners of Berhampur Circle Jail at Lanjipalli in the city tested positive for COVID-19.
According to reports, 84 inmates and two staff were tested for the virus after a life-term convict was infected and admitted to MKCG Medical College and Hospital in a critical condition.
The 46 prisoners were admitted to newly opened 100-bed dedicated COVID Care Centre inside the jail, informed Jail Superintendent Garib Chandra Sahu.
Earlier, the inmates of sub-jails in Salepur of Cuttack district, Patnagarh in Balangir district and Udala in Mayurbhanj had tested positive for the virus.
