Berhampur: The Berhampur Municipal Corporation (BeMC) was shut down for an indefinite period on Wednesday after a head clerk reportedly succumbed to COVID-19 at Tata COVID Hospital Sitalapalli the previous night.
“Only Health and COVID-related sections of the BeMC will remain open to facilitate the fight against the virus,” Commissioner Chakravorty Singh Rathore said.
Those who had come in contact with him have been asked to undergo home quarantine, he added.
The head clerk had tested positive four days ago and had been undergoing treatment since then. Some other staffers of the BeMC have also tested positive for the virus, sources said.
