Berhampur: The Berhampur Municipal Corporation (BeMC) has taken several steps for the city’s beautification.
BeMC sources said during the first phase of the beautification drive, a contractor planted more than 150 trees in cement vases constructed on the divider on the main road from Jenana Hospital Square to the hospital at a cost of Rs 2 lakh.
Besides, decorative flower vases were hung on railway overbridges (ROB).
During the next phase, decorative trees were planted on the dividers on the main road from Gosaninuagaon to Andhapasara. “We would take other roads for beautification in a phase wise manner. All the entry points of Silk City would also be decorated,” said BeMC Commissioner Siddheswar Baliram Bondare.
“Under this beautification programme, we are going to construct new parks at different places, renovate the old parks, beautify the crematoriums, and go for electrification around the ponds in the city. BeMC has also decided to utilise the self-help groups (SHG) for sanitation and cleaning the ponds in Berhampur,” a civic body official said.
Notably, BeMC had planned for the beautification of Berhampur in 2020. However, the drive was delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
