Berhampur Corporator, Vigilance Constable Arrested In Sword Attack Case
Berhampur: Corporator of ward no-25 0f Berhampur Municipal Corporation (BeMC) Narasingha Sethi was arrested on Thursday for his alleged involvement in a sword attack case here.
According to sources, he had allegedly attacked Arun Kumar Maharana of the same locality with a sword during the immersion procession of Ganesh idol. A video of the same had also gone viral.
During the procession, there was an altercation between two groups, which later escalated and Arun was attacked with a sword.
Thereafter, Arun’s family lodged a complaint at the Town police station. The cops have so far arrested seven persons from both groups in connection with the clash. Among them is the corporator’s brother, who is posted as a constable in the Vigilance department.
“The corporator attacked my nephew with a sword. Rather than protecting us, he is attacking us,” Arun’s relative Basanti Maharana told local media.
Berhampur SP Saravana Vivek said animosity between the two groups had been building up since September 1. “They came face to face on Wednesday night and members of both gangs attacked each other with sharp weapons,” he added.
