Berhampur: Odisha Police cracked two high-profile jewellery shops burglary cases with the arrest of two accused persons from neighbouring Chhattisgarh.
The accused are Lokesh Srinivas (29) of Nayapada village under Pandatarai police limits in Kabeerdham district and Lokesh Rao (24) of Bhilai in Durg district in Chhattisgarh.
Gold ornaments weighting 168.06 grams and cash Rs 12,07,060 were seized from them.
The two were involved in burglaries at Binod Jewellery and Keshav Jewellery shops in Berhampur under Bada Bazar police limits in the city.
As per reports, 1400 gm jewellery was looted from Binod Jewellery Shop on October 30 and 424 grams jewellery was stolen from Keshav Jewellery shop on December 17 along with Rs 1.4 lakh cash.
Police said the accused had met at Durg Jail in March 2020. As one of relatives of Lokesh is a resident of Berhampur, the two accused chalked out a plan to loot jewellery shops and executed their plan accordingly.
District SP said Kabeerdham district police in Chhatisgarh was contacted and a police team of Berhampur, led by IIC Bada Bazar police station, went to the neighbouring state.
Police also seized a portable grill cutter machine from the accused persons. Another team is camping at Chhattisgarh to recover the remaining stolen gold and cash , police said.
Both the accused persons were produced in the court of CJM Kawardha in Kabeerdham district of Chhattisgarh on December 24 and brought to Berhampur on transit remand. They were produced in the court of SDJM Berhampur today.
