Berhampur: Raja Mishra, the son of BJD leader Minakshi Mishra who set herself on fire in front of the Ganjam SP’s office, has threatened to follow his mother’s drastic step.
Raja, who was attacked in a brawl over parking in front of his house here and later arrested, has accused police of falsely implicating him in the case as well as seven other cases. He warned to commit self-immolation in front of the DGP’s office if justice is not meted out to him within two weeks.
He told the media: “The group attacked me and my mother over a trivial parking issue. My mother was also injured in the attack.”
Raja alleged that he was asked to go to the police station for recording his statement, but he was instead arrested. “Even though I was the victim in the case, I got arrested first,” he added.
Following his arrest, his mother had set herself on fire in front of the SP’s office on Wednesday. The BJD leader, who sustained about 60 per cent burns, is undergoing treatment at SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack.
Raja claimed that his mother had tried to kill herself because she couldn’t meet the Ganjam SP regarding the incident.
The SP couldn’t be reached for his comment.
Notably, a group clash had ensued in front of the BJD leader’s house on January 28 on the issue of parking of vehicles. Following the incident, police had arrested Raja and the four youths accused of attacking him.
