Jagatsinghpur: A betel shop owner was allegedly murdered near the bus stand in Odisha’s Jagatsinghpur, creating panic among locals.
As per preliminary information, the brutal killing took place near Jogadhari Chhak close to the main bus stand late on Friday night.
The deceased has been identified as Gyana Ranjan Pothal, a resident of Pokpur area in Jagatsinghpur district. Police have recovered a chopper from the crime scene, suspected to have been used in the murder.
Family members of the deceased said as Gyana did not return home by the usual time, his wife and a neighbour went out in search of him. They were shocked to find him lying in a pool of blood near the Jogadhari Chhak.
After receiving the information, family members and local residents rushed to the spot. Tension prevailed in the area following the incident, but police pacified the irate locals.
Preliminary examination showed multiple injury marks on the body, suggesting a brutal assault. The body has been sent for post-mortem, while police have begun an investigation to determine the motive behind the murder and identify those involved.
A team of forensic experts also visited the site and thoroughly examined the crime scene, while efforts are on to check CCTV footages in the area.
