New Delhi: The Bharat Bandh called by several Dalit organisations has prompted the CBSE to postpone its Class X and XII examination scheduled to be held on Monday in Punjab.
The Bandh which has been called to protest the alleged ‘dilution’ of the SCs/STs (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, had prompted the director general (school education) of the Punjab government to write a letter to the Board, requesting it to postpone all its examinations for maintaining law and order situation.
“Taking cognizance of the letter of the director general (school education), the CBSE decided to postpone all class 12 and 10 examinations scheduled for April 2 , 2018 in the state of Punjab. Exams will carry on as per schedule in UT of Chandigarh and rest of the country,” the Board said in a statement issued late in the night, adding that fresh examination dates will be announced soon.
In a bid to protect honest public servants from being falsified in cases, the Supreme Court, on March 20, had diluted the provisions of the Scheduled Castes and the Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.
