New Delhi: Tuesday’s Bharat Bandh, called by the protesting farmers, will be from 11 am to 3 pm, Bharatiya Kisan Union’s spokesperson Rakesh Tikait informed mediapersons.
“Our protest is peaceful and we will continue that way. Tomorrow’s (December 8) Bharat Bandh will be from 11 am to 3 pm. It is a symbolic protest to register our opposition. It is to show that we don’t support some of the policies of the Government of India,” ANI quoted Tikait as saying.
Tikait clarified that the farmers don’t want to do anything that will inconvenience the common man, and all emergency services will go on as usual.
“We don’t want to cause problems for common man. Therefore, we will begin at 11 am, so that they could leave for office on time. Work hours in offices will end by 3 pm. Services such as ambulance, even weddings, can go on as usual. People can show their card and leave,” Tikait said.
The farmers have been demanding that the Centre repeal the contentious farm laws. The ‘Delhi Chalo’ march saw thousands of them travel from Punjab and Haryana to various border points of Delhi where they have stayed put for the past 12 days.
