Bhubaneswar: MP Bhatruhari Mahatab, on Tuesday, wrote a letter to Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan, requesting her to relieve Baijayant Panda from primary membership of Standing Committee of Home Affairs.
In the letter dated March 6, Mahatab urged the Speaker to also allot a separate seat for the suspended MP, away from the seats allocated to other members of the BJD.
“I take this opportunity to request you to allocate Shri Baijayant ‘Jay’ Panda a separate seat away from the seat earmarked for members of the Biju Janata Dal in the Lok Sabha chamber,” the letter read.
“Further, Shri Panda is a Member of Standing Committee on Home Affairs on the strength of BJD Party. Since he has now been suspended from the Membership of the BJD, we wish to have another member of our party on the Committee on Home Affairs.”
The decision to allocate a different seat to suspended Jay Panda is being seen as an attempt to thwart a possible coup in the party, by political analysts in the State.
