Bhubaneswar: Businessman Parvinder Pal Singh, who was assaulted by three persons in police presence at Laxmi Sagar here on January 14, on Wednesday moved the National and Odisha Human Rights Commission (OHRC), seeking slapping of serious charges against the accused.
In his written complaint at the OHRC’s office here, Singh questioned as to why his attackers were not booked under Section 307 (attempt to murder) of IPC despite the fact that they tried to kill him in broad daylight.
He has also lodged an online complaint with the NHRC in this connection.
On January 14, Singh was beaten black and blue when he reportedly asked two men to move their vehicle aside from the entrance of his apartment under Laxmi Sagar police limits.
The following day, police arrested Deepak Jena, the nephew of a former BJD corporator and his associates Sankar Rout and Deepak Mohanty. However, they managed to secure bail within hours of their arrest as the police did not slap any serious charges on them.
Speaking to Odisha Bytes, DCP Bhubaneswar Anup Sahoo had said that the case was registered on the basis of circumstantial evidence and the medical report.
Meanwhile, the Sub-Divisional Judicial Magistrate (SDJM) court on January 22 issued a notice to the three accused to appear in person in the court on February 6.
