Bhubaneswar: Residents, businesses, and institutions in Odisha capital will be charged for door-to-door garbage collection services provided by Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC).
The move aims to promote sustainable waste handling in the city, amid ongoing drives to enhance segregation and reduce environmental impact, a BMC release said.
Addressing a presser at the BMC headquarters on Monday, Bhubaneswar Mayor Sulochana Das informed that separate user fees have been fixed for different categories, including residential homes, shops, hotels, and institutions.
The charges would cover daily waste pickup, source segregation, transportation, and overall locality cleanliness maintenance. The amount has been determined based on property size households and the estimated volume of waste generated by residential, commercial and institutional premises.
The fees will be collected from permanent residents, all businessmen, commercial establishments, educational institutions, various organisations, and industries. Training has already been provided to Swachh Saathis (cleanliness volunteers) for this purpose.
“A clean environment and clean air are now essential for us. Only then can we stay healthy,” Das said, adding that BMC is taking various measures in line with the National Clean Air Programme (NCAP) guidelines.
The Mayor appealed to Bhubaneswar residents to make the city clean, green, and beautiful, urging them to voluntarily step up efforts during the upcoming Swachh Survekshan 2025-26 to secure the number one rank this year. She stressed that door-to-door waste collection, source segregation, and proper transportation can make the city’s cleanliness system sustainable and robust.
Citizens seeking details on applicable rates or payment procedures can access information via the SAFA App or by contacting the dedicated WhatsApp helpline at 7653011832, the release added.
