Bhubaneswar: Twin City Police Commissioner Sudhansu Sarangi on Thursday suspended constable Suresh Das, attached to account section of Commissionerate Police, Bhubaneswar, for allegedly demanding bribe.
He was allegedly caught red-handed by Vigilance outside the Police Seva Bhawan while accepting a bribe of Rs 8,000 from another policeman, who is presently working as OAPF at Balipatna police station.
The complainant, Ratnakar Pedenti of Rayagada, had reported the matter to Vigilance sleuths after Das demanded illegal gratification to process the recovery of house rent without interest in his favour.
A case under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018, has been registered against the constable, who had denied the charges.
“He (complainant) was waiting outside the office building and put the money inside my pocket forcibly,” he said.
