Bhubaneswar DCP Warns People About New Cyber Frauds During Odisha Elections
Bhubaneswar: The Commissionerate Police has warned residents of Bhubaneswar to be aware of cyber frauds duping people in newer ways during this election period.
In a video message, Bhubaneswar DCP Prateek Sing informed about the latest tricks adopted by the cyber frauds to defraud people. He also appealed to them to immediately call on 1930 and lodge a complaint if they fall prey to such fraudsters.
According to police, the miscreants are calling up people by claiming they won’t be able to vote since their voter cards have not been updated. Then they ask for their Voter Identity Card details against some fee. Once the person gives the details, a link is sent to the person’s phone and if the person clicks on the link, money from his/her bank account gets emptied within no time.
“People are also getting messages informing them that a political party wants to recharge their phone and asking them to click on the link sent to their phone to avail the benefits. But you should verify such calls and messages before giving the details. You can go to the National Voters Service Portal and check for yourself,” the DCP said.
Warning people not to believe in fake calls, Singh urged people to lodge a complaint on sanchaarsathi.gov.in or call on 1930 if they get such fake calls.
